I have been to Haiti four times now.
Every time I come, I learn new faces and new things. Some are expected, others – eye opening.
It was this time that I realized I can now have a complete conversation in Creole without scratching my head in loss of words. This is such an answered prayer and exciting thing for me – truly mind blowing and humbling at the same time. I can now better love them on their terms – the cry of my heart for God's children.
Upon arrival, like usual, I was bombarded with "hey you's", hugs, high-fives, and well, questions. This time, I could understand and respond!
It was the questions that stirred my heart to its depths.
Have you ever heard the saying, "they might not remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel"? Well, that's what I saw – that lingering feeling that leaves one itching for more.
I'm here to say that they want you – not your stuff. Though on the outside, some say, "give me, give me", in their inner being, they are saying, "love me, love me".
People want your touch, your words, your time, your love – the depths of your heart.
What you are doing, deep down, though they may not know it themselves, is loving them with Jesus.
They ask for you.
"Where is Joe?" "Where is Kristen?" "Where is Sarah?" "Where is Tom?" "Where is Aimee?" "Where is Keith?" "Where is Lisa?" "Where is David?" "Where is Megan?" "Where is Cathy?" "Where is Josh?" "Where is _____?" "Are they coming?"
They wait for you…
