In Granny's eyes…

In Granny's eyes, you found a sense of humor. You found compassion. In her eyes, you discovered more love than you once knew. In Granny's eyes, you found never ending joy, you found stories without dust, a humble heart of action action, a prayer warrior, and a heart drenched with the blood of Jesus.

This morning, we visited the nursing home here in Granada, Nicaragua and as I went about visiting the folks, I was drawn to one.

As our eyes met, I saw the same spirit of my great grandmother, Lucille Brumley, who recently passed over to Jesus. She had the same "spicy" attitude and I saw her tender, loving kindness in the dark of her eyes. I immediately thought of Granny and I even told someone.

Just after this, she reached up to me, grabbed my shaggy beard and said in Spanish, "You need to cut this. It makes you look old and you would look better with it shaved. You need to cut it off."

In shock, she stole my breath! Granny used to tell me the same exact thing every time I saw her!

The joy that I was filled with in that moment was unsurpassable as I felt as if I was staring Granny in the eyes one last time.

Today, take time to reflect the joys of relationships past that God has filled you with. Thank Him for whatever comes to your heart as you relive the ins and outs of those as you rejoice with the Lord!

As you can see, I took a picture with her and she even said something that Granny would have joked about with a stranger. She said,  "People are gonna think you are my husband and it's not gonna be good!" This again, put a smile on my face as I stared into the love filled eyes of my Nicaraguan abuela (grandmother). What a funny woman!
