I have never been so wrecked over the thought of broken union in my life.
Plans were to meet at Pastor Cornet's church here in Carrefour, Haiti and go with some of his church members to visit families and create closer relationships – what Church to Church is all about.
We arrived at church and noticed quite a crowd. Little did we know that plans had changed.
This crowd of Haitians was waving their hands, shaking, shouting, dancing, and singing. To anyone of the 'outside world', this would look absolutely crazy. I bet it looked crazy to some of our team members too…
The church had come together for a day of prayer and fasting all because one of their sisters had an urgent need – her husband wants a divorce. This is serious business.
God's word says in Mark 10:9, "What God has joined together, let no man separate."
These sons and daughters of the King were claiming that in Jesus name and not taking anything less.
You see, Haitian believers stand firm on God's word – there is no wiggle room.
Family (marriage) was the first institution and will be the last. We can't disengage from it, and if we do, we're in serious trouble. That's God's design for us – to be in holy union with one another and with Him.
God Himself said in Hosea 2:19, "And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy."
I was broken to the core because I had never seen such account of devotion and scriptural obedience amongst the body of Christ. In America, divorce is now seen as "not that big of a big deal", but God doesn't see it that way.
These people were being the living Gospel – gathering in unity, practicing the laying on of hands, declaring God's truths, warring in prayer, and encouraging one another… and they do this often.
To refrain from comparison, I must ask you this: What would America look like if the sons and daughters of the most high God put scripture to practice in such ways?
